This is a Mainstage show. All Mainstage shows hold open auditions and are cast entirely by audition. The director has great leeway on how auditions are run, and so they can vary greatly from one show to another. They begin at 7pm each night, and are held at the theater.

The director has this to say about auditions:

Looking for a actors to audition for the play August: Osage County winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize. A strong, ensemble cast of characters makes this play a riveting modern theater experience; a “turbo-charged tragicomedy…” – NY Times.

Auditions

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Callbacks will be held Tuesday evening. You will be provided and audition form to fill out in the lobby of the theater. Please bring a list of any schedule conflicts to include with your audition form. Any questions about audition procedures or other concerns may be addressed to the show's director, Allen Rowell at allenlrowell@gmail.com.

The cast includes 6 men, character ages from late 30’s through 60’s, and 6 women, character ages from late 30’s through 60’s and one young female actor to play Jean Fordham (who is described as being 14 years old, this is a very adult play and Jean acts like one of the adults in a strong, ensemble cast of characters.)

You can find a great series of videos on YouTube including one for each of the characters described by the members of the Broadway cast.

Questions about the rehearsal schedule?

The exact schedule will be determined after auditions and based partly on a compromise between who we want to cast and their availability. When you audition, you will be asked to fill out a conflict calendar along with your audition form. If we want to cast you and you have minor conflicts, then we will work around those conflicts when creating the schedule.

Typically, rehearsals at the Town and Gown theater are 4 evenings a week starting at 7pm each evening and my rehearsals will almost always be finished by 9pm. The four evenings are usually Mon, Tue, Wed, and Thu. Once the show is cast, I will also look at the possibility of having rehearsals on Sun, Mon, Wed, and Thu instead. But casting comes first.

    Key Dates:
  • Rehearsals begin on Mon 4 Mar
  • Tech week begins on Sun 7 Apr
  • Opening is Fri 12 Apr
  • Strike is Sun 21 Apr
