November 8-10 & 14-17 BILOXI BLUES
by Neil Simon
Directed by Hope Vance
. . .
Set in Mississippi near the end of World War II, a young army recruit,
together with his mismatched cohorts, survives boot camp, learns about life,
and falls in love. This coming-of-age play won the 1985 Tony Award for Best
Play.
Biloxi Blues is the middle one in Simon's personal trilogy. It is
bookended by Brighton Beach Memoirs — about the playwright's teen-age
years and Broadway Bound — Simon's first stirrings as a comedy writer.
Technically it is classified as a comedy, but it is certainly the forerunner
of Simon's later, more introspective dramas.
